United Ventures is a carbon neutral company
We are carbon neutral! How does that work exactly? This means that we have calculated our greenhouse gas emissions, are continuously reducing them and offset unabated emissions through carbon offset projects.
Our steps in detail:
1. Calculate carbon emissions
Together with ClimatePartner we have calculated our CCF – Corporate Carbon Footprint. This includes emissions from sources such as energy and heating, business travel, office supplies and everything else that we use in the operation of our company.
2. Avoid and reduce emissions
Our CCF calculation shows us where we need to reduce our carbon emissions. We update it every year to monitor our progress and identify additional areas for improvement. Where possible, we avoid and reduce our carbon emissions, by reducing our impact when we travel, whether on business or how we commute to work, by adopting energy saving programmes, and more generally by encouraging an environmentally conscious workplace.
3. Carbon offset
For the time being, some emissions remain unavoidable. We offset them by supporting a project from the ClimatePartner portfolio: we have chosen a solar project in India, certified according to international standards, combined with an additional commitment to regional nature conservation, aimed at restoring the forest ecosystems of Campo dei Fiori (Varese, Italy) that were devastated by a storm in 2020. 4. Create transparency
Via our label stating “carbon neutral company” and the ID, you can track our carbon neutrality through the ClimatePartner ID tracking tool: www.climatepartner.com/22906-2303-1001
As well as the avoidance and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, offsetting is a vital step in climate action. Without offsetting, the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Convention is not achievable at present – we do not yet have the necessary technologies to reduce all emissions drastically enough to meet this target. Investing in carbon offset projects also promotes sustainable development in the Southern hemisphere, so that economic progress is not dictated by investment in and use of fossil fuels.
United Ventures’ carbon offset projects
To offset our carbon emissions, we support a carbon offset project certified according to international standards, combined with an additional commitment to regional nature conservation, aimed at restoring natural habitats and adapting them to climatic changes.
This combined project contributes to the financing of a certified climate project and additionally supports nature conservation in Italy. For every tonne of CO2 saved through the contribution via a certified climate project, a financial contribution will go towards the reconstruction of Campo dei Fiori in Italy. In this way, we can restore forest ecosystems that were devastated by a storm in 2020.
Currently, the reconstruction of Campo dei Fiori is combined with a certified solar project in India. This project uses solar power to produce renewable energy. It involves the installation of solar PV modules in the three Indian states Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
By investing in this project, we also support the realisation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, such as the fight against poverty or the improvement of living conditions in emerging and developing countries.
