Exein raises €70M Series C to redefine IoT security

July 16th, 2025

From a bold idea in 2018 to becoming the global leader in embedded runtime security, Exein’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. Today, we’re thrilled to celebrate a major milestone in that journey: a €70 million Series C round led by Balderton, with new investors Supernova and Lakestar joining the cap table, and continued support from 33N, Partech—and United Ventures.

As early believers in Exein, having led their seed round in 2018 and supported every follow-on round since, we’ve had a front-row seat to their transformation from an ambitious Rome-based startup to a strategic player in global cybersecurity.

Exein’s founder and CEO, Gianni Cuozzo, has always had a crystal-clear vision: to build the immune system of digital life. In a world where one in three cyberattacks originates from connected devices, this vision has become not just urgent, but indispensable.

The cybersecurity landscape has changed. What used to be a problem for IT departments is now a national security priority. As hackers exploit vulnerabilities in smart devices to target critical infrastructure—such as hospitals, railways, and power grids—Exein’s value proposition becomes self-evident.

Rather than relying solely on network perimeter defenses, Exein focuses on the device itself. Its AI-enabled, real-time threat detection is built directly into embedded systems, making security an intrinsic layer of every connected product, from semiconductors to industrial machines.

Exein now protects over one billion devices globally. The company is growing at over 450 percent year-over-year and has formed partnerships with some of the world’s most important chipset and device manufacturers, including MediaTek, Supermicro, Kontron, SECO, and AAEON.

This new round will support expansion into key global markets, including the US, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. It will also fund new product development in areas such as runtime protection for AI models operating within edge devices, a fast-growing segment of the cybersecurity space. At the same time, Exein is exploring strategic acquisitions to broaden its product offering and accelerate growth.

We’ve been fortunate to work closely with Gianni Cuozzo over the past six years, through every inflection point, from building product to signing global partners, and now, to scaling across continents. His relentless focus, deep technical vision, and strategic clarity continue to inspire us.

This raise is fuel for the next chapter—and we’re proud to have been part of Exein’s story from the beginning.

The embedded world is the new frontier in cybersecurity. And Exein is leading the charge.
